Kearney, Neb. (Omaha World-Herald) Kearney police are looking to identify the woman who left her days-old twin sons at a local hospital.
Officers went to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney Monday afternoon after learning that two baby boys had been left at the hospital by their mother. The twins were born Saturday at the hospital.
The babies are now in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
Hospital and law enforcement officials are working to identify the mother, who may have given false information when she was admitted to the hospital.
Anyone with information should call the police department at 308-237-2104.
Nebraska law signed by Gov. Dave Heineman in 2008 declares that no one can be prosecuted solely for leaving a child in the custody of hospital officials. The law was clarified months later to include only infants younger than 30 days old after dozens of teenage children were dropped off by parents when the first law passed.
