One in Custody After Police Standoff

GRAND ISLAND – One person is taken into custody after police tried to serve a warrant to a home in Grand Island.

Law enforcement served a warrant near South Eddy and West John Streets at around 6 p.m. Friday which turned into a standoff.

With a heavy police presence, law enforcement blocked off roads and officials asked people to avoid the area.

One hour later, a male exited a house with his hands in the air and was taken into custody.

UPDATE: Grand Island Police Department was serving a high risk warrant with an uncooperative subject in the home.

Reported gunshots were chemical munitions fired by police into the residence.

The suspect is in custody of the Grand Island Police Department without serious injury.
