COLUMBUS – The Raiders bounced back from a loss on Friday to beat Bismarck State Saturday morning, but were hindered with another injury against Iowa Central.
The Raiders took down Bismarck State College in three sets, and CCC Head Coach Mary Young says she was pleased with her teams effort after a tough loss.
“I was pleased with our ability to bounce back from our loss on Friday evening. We all left the gym pretty frustrated and it was good to rebound with a quality win. We were way more efficient with our hitting and it enabled us to score on Bismarck,” says Young.
The final game of the evening against Iowa Central, the team was once again hit with an injury, already battling injuries to three starters in Maeghan Pieper, Jessica Eurek, and Paxton Throne.
“In our final match of the day, we were bitten by the injury bug once again with one of our players suffering what appears to be a concussion in the second set. I can’t say enough about our effort and ability to fight in the match… many teams would give up, but I thought we played with a lot of heart.”
“Iowa Central is a solid team and we hung right with them and made them play to beat us. I thought Jordee Korte showed a lot of poise as she stepped into the role of setter and made great decisions. We continue to get tested with all of our injuries and I’m really proud of our team and their ability to stay positive and a cohesive unit; I do believe it’s preparing us for something great,” says Young.
The Raiders sit at 24-7 on the season, with their first loss not coming until the 13th match of the year. CCC will host North Platte Community College in both a conference and division match-up on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
