NORFOLK — It was the second and final day of the Class A Girls State Golf Championships today at Norfolk Country Club and golfers were enjoying improved weather from dreary round one.
Defending champ Megan Whittaker opened the round with a two stroke lead while her team, Elkhorn South, was just one stroke up on Lincoln Southwest and Papillion-La Vista.
Whittaker made two birdies on the back nine to post a tournament-low round of 78. Her competition struggled and her +14 total was good enough to win the tournament by 10 strokes.
Elkhorn South rallied around Whittaker to shoot 21 strokes better than Southwest and claim the team title.
Whittaker, a senior, plans to golf for the Huskers next year.
