100% Of Donations To Benefit Wayne Community Schools During Foundation Gift-A-Thon

WAYNE – For the second year, the Wayne Community Schools Foundation will be hosting their Gift-A-Thon.

Between Sunday, August 20 – Saturday, August 26, the week-long event will allow supporters of Wayne High School a chance to donate to the school.

Lindsay McLaughlin is the Executive Director for the Wayne Community Schools Foundation office. McLaughlin talked about this being the second year and there is always room for improvement.

“Throughout the week it was a little bit quieter than what we had anticipated,” said McLaughlin. “So, we hope this year to make it a point that it’s a week-long initiative with the blitz night kind of being the ta-da of the whole event.”

The Gift-A-Thon is way to replace all the “mini” fundraising sales that were held where students and teachers were putting in a lot of work and not receiving all of the profit.

“The Gift-A-Thon allows the students and teachers to earn their donations for their clubs and activities,” McLaughlin added. “But, also receiving 100% of their profit.”

Fundraising done by Wayne Elementary Boosters (WEB), Music Boosters, Blue Devil Booster Club and the Foundation are all exemptions from the Gif-A-Thon.

The goal is to raise $40,000. Money raised will support Wayne High sports/clubs, classes, National Honor Society, elementary library and school as well as the unified bowling program, Ag education/FFA Chapter and any club which is held within the school district.

On Wednesday, August 23 Wayne High students involved in Blue Devil activities will go door to door in search of donations.

McLaughlin is hoping to have close to 100% of students involved in activities and sports out and about around Wayne.

“So, with the blitz night it’s a way for students to interact with the community, to introduce themselves and possibly find someone, make a relationship with them that they would come out and watch them.”

There are multiple ways to donate. Drop your tax-deductible donation off at the high school (611 W 7th St.), mail to P.O. Box 23, go online to www.waynecommunityschoolsfoundation.com or pledge your donation.
