COLUMBUS – A two-vehicle accident in Columbus on Tuesday afternoon caused $17,000 in damages, and sent one driver to the hospital.
The accident occurred at the intersection of 23rd Street and 3rd Avenue at 1:11 PM on Tuesday. The drivers involved were identified as 61-year-old James Conard Jr. of Manhattan, Kansas, and 28-year-old Amanda Franzen of Rising City.
According to an accident report, Conard was driving westbound on 23rd Street, while Franzen was stopped at the traffic signal at the intersection of E 3rd Avenue and 23rd Street. The light turned green for Franzen to proceed, and she was struck by Conard as he continued driving down 23rd Street.
Police say that Conard had run a red light at the intersection, causing the collision with Franzen. Damage to Conard’s vehicle, which belonged to Marmic Fire & Safety Company out of Joplin, Missouri, was estimated at $7,000.
Franzen’s vehicle sustained $10,000 of damage, and she was transported to Columbus Community Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Conard received a citation for running the red light and causing the accident.
