NORFOLK — School is out for the summer, temperatures are rising, and Norfolk’s AquaVenture is open for business.
The park first opened in June of 2012 and has become a hot spot for area youth to spend their afternoons during the summer. With slides, a wave pool, and little tyke attractions, AquaVenture keeps Norfolk youth busy. According to AquaVenture Facilities Manager P.J. Evans, there were over 1,000 people who came through the park last Friday, an exciting number for the staff to see this early in the season.
“One goal we have is we hope to raise our numbers every year. So, we hope more people come and visit our park than the prior year before. So far we’ve reached that goal. On average, we get a few hundred people here at least on a daily basis. It also depends on Nebraska weather which is unpredictable.”
As attendance grows, Evans says she makes sure the staff is equipped to handle the visitors. Over the years, they’ve added lifeguards on duty, changed rotations, and now do more training.
“From when we started I feel like we’ve grown as a staff. We do a lot more training than we did at the beginning. We like to do inserts quite often for our guards, and making sure they’re up to date on everything, so the kids, adults and youth that come here everyday feel safe when they’re here.”
Evans reminds pool-goers that birthday parties at AquaVenture are a fun time, complete with an appearance by AquaVenture mascot Ollie the Octopus. The pool is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m..
