UPDATED: Bank Robbery in Colon – Suspect At Large

COLON – Saunders county police and sheriff’s deputies are searching for an armed suspect this morning after the individual robbed the State Bank of Colon this morning around 10:30AM.

After robbing the bank of an undisclosed amount, the individual in question stole a bank employee’s vehicle – a green GMC Envoy, which was abandoned and recovered shortly after. The suspect made away in a second vehicle, and authorities are now looking for a silver/grey SUV.

Please contact the Saunders County Sheriff’s Department at 402 443-3718 or Nebraska Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-1494 with any information about the robbery. The FBI is also involved in the investigation.

UPDATE: An eyewitness in Mead reports seeing police in pursuit of the silver SUV around noon, heading toward Omaha. This has not been verified. Reports say at least one bank in North Bend locked their entrances and only allowed people they knew in through a side door.

The FBI Omaha division is now leading the investigation. They describe the suspect as a black male, approximately 5’6. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark Nike shoes, dark pants and dark gloves.

It has been determined that the silver/gray SUV was not stolen. Rather, the suspect had another individual pick them up from the location of the abandoned GMC Envoy. That second individual is also being sought by the FBI, Saunders County Sheriff’s Office and associated policing departments.

The suspect remains at large, and should still be considered armed and dangerous. If you have information related to this crime, or see the suspect, please call 911.
