BEATRICE – The City of Beatrice completed a modified annual Clean City Week campaign Wednesday, where city street and public works personnel use loaders and trucks to haul away large items residents could leave at curbside.

Mayor Stan Wirth says this year’s shortened, three-day schedule appeared to work well.   Officials tried to enforce large-item pick-up only…no dumping of garbage on the curb.

Persons had to register their address prior to the collection, to have items hauled away.

This year, the city established a drop-off area for old mattresses, located just south of the West Scott ball field area.

The city did have one out-of-state party dump a trailer-load of old mattresses, which Wirth says came from Kansas.

The mayor says the Beatrice Board of Public Works will evaluate this year’s project, which he says the public generally continues to support.
