Cattle Hauling Truck Overturns North of Beatrice

BEATRICE – A semi-trailer truck hauling cattle, overturned near the east junction of U.S. Highway 77 and Nebraska Highway 41, late Monday night.  The driver, 61-year-old Timothy Farrell of St. Joseph, Missouri, suffered minor injuries, and was taken by Clatonia Rescue to Bryan LGH West Medical Center, in Lincoln.

The accident happened just before midnight, about sixteen miles north of Beatrice.  Gage County Sheriff’s officers say Farrell’s truck was traveling west on Highway 41when he lost control on a curve, and the truck rolled onto the driver’s side.  The truck and trailer slid into the ditch on its side, coming to rest off the southwest side of 41.

Seven head of cattle were killed. Another thirteen head were still roaming in the area, and sheriff’s investigators were urging motorists to be cautious in that area, because the cattle surviving the wreck were still in the process of being rounded up.

Authorities say speed and inattention were factors in the accident.  Farrell was using a safety restraint.
