ALBION, Neb. – A Cedar Rapids woman is accused by police of striking her four kids and choking her oldest son.
28-year-old Casey Dodds, is charged with five counts of felony child abuse and one count of strangulation in Boone County District court.
According to the affidavit, the incident began on April 24th when she attempted to take her kids to Riverside School in the middle of the night.
The court documents say, her oldest child who is ten years old, said when they came back home, she hit all four of her children at least one time in the face and she hit the oldest 13-20 times on various parts of his body and face.
The records say, she told the oldest to tell people at school that a sibling hit him and when he refused, she struck him on both sides of the cheek and on his ears. The affidavit states, he had visible bruising around his ears, dry blood in one ear, visible fingerprints on his cheek and he reported a bloody nose from that night.
The records say he also said she choked him and when he told her he could not breathe she said, “I know.” The documents say the child told authorities his mother drinks too much.
According to court documents, when authorities talked to the woman, she told them that she did smack one of the children and that she drank too much that day. The records say she also told authorities that she had too many kids at a young age and they “drove her nuts.”
The kids were removed from Dodd’s custody but it is unclear on who exactly has custody of the four young children.
She is scheduled to appear in Boone County on September 5th. If convicted she faces a max of 15 years in prison.
