Chalktoberfest at the Lakes Mixes Nature and Art on Saturday

FREMONT – A new event is coming to the Fremont Lakes this weekend.

Chalktoberfest at the Lakes is a new Fall family celebration that will begin at 2 p.m. at the Tow Line on Saturday. Bobbi Holm with Nebraska Game and Parks says the event is a chance for people to enjoy art and nature as Fall begins.

“It is kind of combining the traditional Oktoberfest idea with chalk drawings. It has been done at other places, and it just sounded like fun,” said Holm. “So it’s a Fall celebration for people to come out and enjoy the park and enjoy the leaves, and hopefully the nice weather. And have some making art.”

The activities at the event will each involve art and nature, such as chalk drawings, leaf rubbings, sketching demonstrations, and other related activities. Holm says the Tow Line will also provide concessions near their fire pit.

“Tow Line has also said they will be serving food outside in their courtyard area around their fire pit,” said Holm. “Hopefully he’ll have food and beverages that people can purchase. And then have a fire going in the fire pit to kind of add to the mood of the Oktoberfest idea.”

Chalktoberfest at the Lakes will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 7th at the Tow Line. Anyone may attend the event, but a park entry permit is required.
