Columbus Man Will Serve Nearly Four Months After Trying To Impress His Girlfriend

COLUMBUS – A Columbus man was sentenced to nearly four months in jail on Wednesday after an incident where he was trying to show off to his girlfriend.

According to an arrest affidavit, a Platte County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the area of 3rd Avenue and E. 38th Street on August 1 for reports of a vehicle in a ditch. The vehicle belonged to 48-year-old Wesley Rohloff, who said he was trying to show off to his girlfriend, and didn’t realize the ditch was so deep due to the construction on 3rd Avenue.

As Rohloff was getting his license out of his wallet, the deputy observed a bag with white crystal-like substance inside, which tested positive for methamphetamine. Rohloff was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and careless driving.

Rohloff was sentenced in the Platte County Court on Wednesday morning to 120 days in jail, with a five days credit of time served. Rohloff was also required to pay a $100 fine for the careless driving charge.
