Community Invited To Attend FFA Events In Wayne

WAYNE – Two events are scheduled to be held in Wayne, featuring the new chapter of FFA.

FFA stands for Future Farmers of America, as the official name of the group is the National FFA Organization.

The Wayne FFA Chapter will host an event called, “Local Leadership” night on Monday, November 13 with a Future of Ag Banquet scheduled for Saturday, November 18.

After graduating from UNL last Spring majoring in Ag Education for the teaching option with an Engler entrepreneurship minor, Toni Rasmussen was hired in December of 2016 as the Ag Educator and FFA Advisor for Wayne Community Schools. Rasmussen said Local Leadership Night is for the FFA members to practice for their upcoming competition in the Leadership Development.

“These competitions it’s really focused on public speaking and having the students be able to advocate for agriculture,” said Rasmussen. “One of the big ones is parliamentary procedure.”

The open house will be held at the Wayne Jr/Sr High School starting at 7:30 p.m. for those to tour the newly renovated areas. Opening Ceremonies will follow at 8 p.m. with awards, demonstrations and speeches held in the lecture hall. Enter the front door and walk down towards the shop area.

“We also will kind of recognize our accomplishments so far in the students that have been involved,” Rasmussen added. “In my opinion taken the risk and gotten on the motive to running an Ag program and FFA chapter.”

Also, join the Future of Ag Banquet sponsored by Wayne County Farm Bureau held at the City Auditorium. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with a meal to follow at 6 p.m. This is a free will donation event with all proceeds benefiting the Wayne FFA Chapter. Dr. Tom Field is the head of the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship program, of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and he’ll be the main speaker.

“Then, of course, the kids in the blue jackets will be there and you’re welcomed to talk to them and see what their experiences are so far,” Rasmussen mentioned. “In addition to the Wayne Chapter being there, Randolph will be bringing a few students as well.”

Upcoming Wayne Chapter FFA events will be regular chapter meetings along with speaking at the school board meeting on November 13, Rotary Club on November 22 and then at the Ag Outlook Seminar on December 1 at the Fire Hall.
