NORFOLK – The new Splash Pad Park in Norfolk is officially open to the public and runs for eleven hours throughout the day. And with just one hit of a button is where the fun begins.
The project took almost three years to raise the money, with the total of seven hundred thousand dollars between the park and the splash pad.
Chairwoman of The New Splash Pad Project Emily Afrank explains how the splash pad is a component for the city of Norfolk and how it provides a place for children to play.
“I have three kids and my older two have been asking me when is the splash pad going to open? When is the splash pad going to open? So this morning at breakfast I told them Today after daycare we get to go to the Splash Pad and they were pretty excited. They were able to push the button for the first time and just the kids being able to play without any limitations is really exciting to see,” says Afrank.
“I love the buckets, it just dumps on your head, it’s so much fun. I love just walking around and getting sprayed from under me, it’s so much fun,” says Jasi Sheriff.
The splash pad is open from 10 a.m in the morning to 9 p.m at night and is welcome to everyone.
“Everyone can use it at no cost to them and it’sno cost to come and play and we just really want to emphasize it’s a city-owned park and we really appreciate the support to the city of Norfolk for giving us the entire embrace park,” says Afrank.
