Fire Destroys Swine Buildings, East of Pickrell

BEATRICE –  Pickrell Volunteer Firefighters were sent to battle a fire that burned down two swine buildings early today, about three miles east of the community.

Pickrell Fire Chief Alan Wallman says his department, firefighters from Adams and Beatrice Rural Fire were all summoned to the scene, with the first call going out at about 4:50 a.m.   Firefighters were sent to the Paul Wallman farm, along South 38th Road….a second cousin to the fire chief.  No animals were lost in the fire that destroyed adjoining nursery buildings.

Wallman says the cause of the fire hasn’t been pinpointed, but a Nebraska Fire Marshal investigator is assisting the Pickrell Department.  One possibility is a weather-related cause.

There were no injuries to firefighters during the blaze.   Wallman says the buildings are a total loss.  Firefighters were on the scene until between 9:30 and 10 a.m.   The farm is three miles east of Pickrell, and then just south on South 38th.
