Fremont Hit and Runs Keep Police Busy

FREMONT – There were several hit and runs in Fremont this week-end.

According to Lt. Ed Watts, on Friday at 8:45 p.m. officers received a report of a hit and run in the 1200 block of N. Broad Street. A 2007 Chevrolet Impala was struck and sustained an estimated $1,500 in damage. The investigation is ongoing.

Also on Friday a woman reported a theft from her vehicle, which was parked in the 500 block of W. 6th Street. An unknown person or persons broke into her vehicle and stole an iPod, valued at $175.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Friday officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Pierce Street after witnessing a vehicle fail to yield to a stop sign. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Christian A. Palafox, age 21 of Fremont. It was discovered Palafox was driving without a license, for which he had been cited previously. He was jailed for driving without an operator’s license.

On Saturday at 7:55 a.m. officers responded to a hit and run complaint in the area of 200 S. William Avenue. A vehicle described as a 1994 purple Ford Mustang was parked on the street and was struck. Witnesses were able to identify 21-year-old Juan Velasquez Batz of Fremont as a suspect. Officers contacted Batz, who showed signs of impairment consistent with being intoxicated. A DUI investigation was conducted, and Batz was ultimately arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident. Both vehicles were considered total losses.

And at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Sunday officers received a report of another hit and run incident in the 200 block of S. Downing Street. A 2004 Pontiac Grand Am was parked on the street and was struck by another vehicle. Damage was estimated at $2,500.
