Gambling Argument Leads to Assault Charges for Two Inmates

COLUMBUS, Neb. – An argument over gambling caused two inmates to get into tussle at the Platte County jail according to court documents.

21-year old Devin Piper and 24-year-old Antonia Magana are charged with assault on a confined person after investigators say they fought in a jail cell on September 17th.

The court documents say the two had a disagreement over gambling and both entered Magana’s cell and shut the door. The records say the two came out injured, with Magana emerging with a swollen left eye and a bump on his forehead and Piper also showing a bump on his forehead.

The documents say authorities found blood on the floor and walls of the cell, plus “a large amount” of bloody tissue paper in the toilet.

Piper is currently jailed after being accused of assisting in an armed robbery at Avenue Bar in Columbus. Magana is confined on two Colfax County warrants.

The felony charge brings a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
