Gas Leak Causes Evacuation

NORFOLK – Residents of a Norfolk apartment complex were evacuated due to a gas leak.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue responded to calls of a smell of gas in the area of 6th and Georgia Ave. at the Ashland Apartments around 10:30 a.m.

On arrival, crews found a punctured gas line in the alley behind the complex. Residents were evacuated soon after.

Norfolk High School was contacted to keep students inside because of the close distance from the leak.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue were able to close the gas line around one hour later at 11:30 a.m.

Residents of the Ashland Apartments were allowed to return to their homes at that time.

There were no injures reported from the leak.

The cause of the gas line puncture is still unknown at this time.
