High School Gym Scoreboard Gift Accepted, Elementary Sound System Bid Approved
School Board President, Dr. Carolyn Linster presents Rocky Ruhl life-time passes to come back to Wayne Community Schools for him and his wife, Sylvia who are both retiring.

WAYNE – The Wayne Community Schools Board of Education met for their regularly scheduled meeting Monday evening.

From the Wayne Jr./Sr. High School Library, board members approved Policies 2000-6000.

Board members were made aware that the new scoreboard for the high school gymnasium will be funded in-house. The quote from NEVCO, based out of Greenville, Illinois, has been accepted for $27,052.41.

Both the Wayne Athletic Booster Club and Wayne Community Schools Foundation will cover the costs.

Also, Wayne Elementary will get an upgrade in their gym. Midwest Music Center from Norfolk will install a new sound system for their gym. Total cost is $13,147.26 as Wayne Elementary Boosters will contribute about $6,500.

Judy Poehlman gave a review from the Wayne Community Schools Wellness Policy. Superintendent Mark Lenihan and the board complimented her and her staff on another great year. Wayne offers several activities for exercise and options for healthy foods.

The board, later in the meeting, approved there will be no increases to the milk and meals for the 2017-2018 school year.

During the Superintendent report, Mr. Lenihan stated that Wayne Community School’s State Aid Certification Fund for the upcoming school year is slightly less than last year. Wayne will receive $218,522 for state aid which is based off of just over $98K in net option funding and about 120K from the allocated income tax funds.

Mark your calendars for the 2017-18 Gift-A-Thon hosted by Wayne Community Schools Foundation. From Sunday, August 20 – Saturday, August 26 money will be raised while students will go door-to-door to during their blitz night on Wednesday, August 23.

The next regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting is set for Monday, July 10 at 5 p.m. The board will also host their retreat on Thursday, July 13 at 5 p.m.
