COLUMBUS – Loup Power District held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday afternoon for its new operations and service center in Columbus.
The new center will be built off of Lost Creek Parkway, across the road from Farm Credit Services of America. The ceremony was attended by representatives from Loup, as well as from BD Construction, the design build contractor for the project.
The new center comes as a result of the 12th Avenue viaduct project’s approval by the City of Columbus. The preliminary designs of the proposed viaduct would bisect the current Loup service center, so Loup board members decided to move forward with a brand new service center to avoid issues with the viaduct.
Loup President and CEO Neal Suess says that once the center is built, having access to the Parkway will improve Loup’s response time and overall service to customers.
Barring any delays, the project is expected to be completed in roughly 15 months.
