Motorcycle Pursuit in Gage, Johnson Counties, Ends With Early Morning Arrest

BEATRICE –  A motorcyclist who led law officers on a chase from Beatrice into Johnson County early this morning, has been arrested.   The pursuit happened between 3:00 and 3:30 this morning, ending in Johnson County on U.S. Highway 136, beyond a turn-off to the town of Sterling.

Beatrice Police Officer Daniel Moss says the incident began with a report of a suspicious person, dressed in all black, on a black-colored street bike.  The motorcycle was parked in the middle of West Mary Street near the Beatrice Community Preschool.

Moss says the motorcycle operator sped east through the city at speeds up to 70 miles per hour, running two or three traffic lights. The pursuit in town did not meet any other vehicles.  Moss says he pursued the motorcyclist in his patrol car, east on 136, from Beatrice.

Moss said the motorcyclist slowed to a stop on the highway, and was arrested.  The suspect is identified as 37-year-old Armando Lerma.  He’s been booked for flight to avoid arrest and willful reckless driving.
