Nebraska Delegation Safe as Shooting Investigation Widens

Omaha, Ne—”We’ll have to let the dust settle and go from there,” Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon said today just hours after a shooting that left a Louisiana Congressman and others wounded.

The shooting occurred at an early morning Virginia softball practice for Republican members of Congress, according to several national news reports.

Bacon and all four other members of the Nebraska delegation are safe and sound—were not at the practice and attended the weekly Nebraska Breakfast at the Capitol—as News Channel Nebraska reported earlier today.

The shooter is in custody, according to several wire reports. One witness tells ABC News, “I saw a white man with a rifle.”

Among those wounded is House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana who was shot in the hip.

Bacon tells KFAB radio that Scalise campaigned for him last year and is a “good friend.”

Extra security precautions are being taken throughout the Washington D.C. area.  At this time international terrorism is not suspected.
