Norfolk Celebrates National Adoption Day

NORFOLK- Hundreds of children in Nebraska are waiting to find their forever homes.

November is National Adoption Awareness Month, and families from several Nebraska cities celebrated with a special event at the Norfolk YMCA Saturday.

The event celebrated families who have added to their family through adoption. This includes foster families, step parent adoption and private adoption. This annual one-day event has made the dreams of thousands of children come true by working with policymakers, practitioners, and advocates to finalize adoptions. It’s a celebration of life, love, and family.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there are more than 400,000 children in foster care, with 114,000 waiting to be adopted. As of Oct. 29 in Nebraska, there were 405 wards of the state available for adoption.
