BEATRICE – A Gage County couple is asking the county for assistance in addressing what they see as a safety concern, at a northeast Beatrice intersection.
David Hellige says 19th and Dorsey traffic is creating a safety issue at the intersection, which he says is dangerous.
He says it’s especially dangerous for motorists who are eastbound, approaching the intersection.
:22 “a dirty look”
Hellige told the county board he’s gathered 36 signatures on a petition regarding the intersection, including a handful of people who’ve had close calls at the intersection over the past couple of weeks.
Hellige says possible options include a four-way stop sign arrangement at the intersection, a limit on parking along North 19th, or lowering the speed limit.
:18 “government cooperation…(laughs)…
Beatrice Police Chief Bruce Lang, a member of a city traffic safety committee, says the committee is discussing possible options to improve safety.
Part of the intersection is inside the city limits, while other parts are in the county’s jurisdiction.
