FREMONT – An annual free scrap tire collection will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds this Friday.
The Papio Missouri River NRD, Nebraska Loess Hills RC&D Council, and Lower Elkhorn NRD will be holding a free scrap tire collection from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday at the fairgrounds. The fair grounds are located on the western edge of Arlington, on the north side of Highway 30 between Blair and Fremont.
According to Land and Water Programs Coordinator with the Papio Missouri River NRD, Terry Schumacher, there will be signs leading to the scrap tire collection site on the fairgrounds.
“They need to come in the main entrance of Highway 30,” said Schumacher. “Then there will be quite a bit of signage directing them where to go, but we actually have the tires in the arena area, so it’s fenced.”
The collection will accept all sizes of car, truck, semi and tractor tires. Each load is limited to 100 tires, and no rims will be accepted on the tires. They cannot accept tires from businesses that charge tire disposal fees, and they ask that vehicles are not left unattended in line.
The 10 county collection area includes Burt, Colfax, Cumin, Dakota, Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy, Stanton, Thurston, and Washington counties. Funding for this collection is provided through a grant from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.
