Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest Opens For Nebraska’s 4th Graders

WAYNE – Though winter weather will be with us for a few more months, the 2018 Nebraska Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest has begun.

The Nebraska Association of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, the Nebraska National Guard and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency sponsor the poster contest every year as part of the Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The contest is open to all 4th graders in public and private schools, as well as home-schooled 4th graders. Teachers are encouraged to have students participate in the contest, while teaching about severe weather safety.

The most common themes for posters are tornados, but any severe weather is allowed to be featured. The posters should consist of both a safety slogan and art work to go along with it. The 1st place state winner will receive a $125 gift card with prizes also given away through 4th place, provided by the Nebraska Association of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service.
