BATTLE CREEK – The Stromsburg-Osceola-Shelby Juniors are state champions.
The Rebels capped-off their undefeated legion season with a 6-2 victory over Pender in the class C state tournament.
S-O-S Head Coach Jeff Kuhnel says his team put a complete performance together when it mattered most as the Rebels got out to an early lead and never looked back.
“We had hit the ball well and our pitching has really been strong as well. It wasn’t what we really worked on, its’s just a matter on continuing what we were doing,” says Kuhnel.
The head coached added that his team was riding a wave of momentum from earlier in the tournament.
“We had our backs against the wall at districts, we had to win two games that last night and we got it done then and we had a theme coming into this and we wanted to sweep the tournament and thats what we did and we got it done some how. There were some great teams in this Tournament and to go undefeated that’s a challenge,” says Kuhnel.
Kuhnel feels that his group of young men’s work-ethic helped bring them the state championship.
“Well this is what we worked for all year long, districts is tough to but I mean there’s nothing better then winning a state championship. Hopefully we will be back here next year, a year older and we will get it as seniors,” says Rebels Pitcher Bailey Belt.
It was a great way to cap off the undefeated season with a great victory in front of their fans.
