COLUMBUS – The Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the Columbus Area Future Fund presented the 2018 Taste of Columbus at the Ramada Inn on Sunday evening.
The event gave the Columbus community the opportunity to sample a variety of different food items from various area restaurants, as well as bid on items in both a live and silent auction provided by Columbus businesses and community members.
Food venders who participated in the event included Applebee’s, Fair Park Grille, Hy-Vee, Subway, and River’s Edge Convention Center. Drink vendors included Eagle Distributing, James Arthur Vineyard, Johnson Brothers, and Prairie Creek Vineyard among others.
Items available in the silent auction included an original woodcarving by Roger Nadrchal, a paper shredder from Office Net, a 5 x 8 ivory shag carpet rug, and a Dooney & Bourke Leather Nebraska Satchel. The live auction included a four day, three night New York City trip, a family membership to the Columbus YMCA, two tickets to the Nebraska vs Michigan State football game, and much more.
Proceeds from the event went to both the Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Future Fund, which has provided significant grants to various projects in the Columbus area. Those projects include an all-inclusive playground, the Andrew Jackson Higgins Memorial, the Columbus Ice Project, and Centro Hispano.
The Future Fund’s overall goal is to build their unrestricted endowment to use as a tool for community development. The organization says that the long-term benefit is to provide a steady stream of revenue for future community needs, with the immediate impact being the opportunity to award grants to other local projects.
