Taste Of Tailgate Victory Scheduled For Friday

WAYNE – The Second Annual Gift-A-Thon and a new event, “Drive 4 UR School” have recently been completed as another fundraiser for the Wayne Community Schools Foundation is set to place later this week.

Assistant Director of Wayne Area Economic Development (WAED), Irene Fletcher joined Dan Baddorf during the “View From Wayne America” last week.

An upcoming event will be the fourth annual Taste of Victory Tailgate set for Friday, September 8 at 5:45 p.m. until about 7 p.m. This is a joint project between WAED and the Wayne Community Schools Foundation. In the past, the event has been held in late September, early October as this year it will be held in early September.

The group was looking for volunteers or individuals that are sponsored by a business to provide food samples for about 225 guests at the tailgate.

“Those guests will in turn at the tailgate vote with their dollars on their favorite food,” said Fletcher. “So, each celebrity chef has an opportunity to vibe for honors and they’ll also receive $50 in Chamber Bucks.”

Wayne High will host Arlington at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 8 as all the money raised will be donated to the Wayne Community Schools Foundation.

Recently, Wayne Area Economic Development announced their Executive Director will be Luke Virgil. His first day will be Monday, September 11 as Fletcher is excited for Luke to start.

“The week that Luke Virgil starts in our office is kind of our heavy meeting week,” Fletcher added. “So, Luke will be able to get around and visit with our various committees and meet a lot of people; be able to make a lot of introductions that first week.”

Also, another event Fletcher and WAED organizes are Friday morning Chamber Coffee’s. There are a few Chamber Coffee’s open in November, but most Friday’s are full as of Thursday. As a business, they are responsible to provide some sort of snack and an alternate beverage as the Chamber supplies the coffee, cups, napkins and a sign-in book.

Chamber Coffee starts at 10 a.m. with announcements being made at 10:15 p.m. before the host takes over.

“I know people stress over it and worry about it,” Fletcher mentioned. “It’s just a chance to show off your business, show off your staff, show off something new and show off the tried-and-true; it’s just your chance to market.”
