Tom Osborne Recruits TeamMates in Battle Creek

NORFOLK, NE — Tom Osborne spent 24-years recruiting for football players, but now he’s looking for people to make a difference.

Osborne was in Battle Creek on Wednesday to help the Battle Creek school district launch their Teammates mentoring program.

The program was launchd in 1991 by the Hall of Fame coach and his wife, Nancy. After seeing massive success over the years, TeamMates now has chapters throughout Nebraska and Iowa, and recently first chapters in Kansas and Wyoming.

Battle Creek principal Jeff Heimis says back in May Osborne stopped by the Junior-Senior High to talk about establishing TeamMates there.

“We’re trying to recruit mentors and adult figures in our community who would like to meet with students during the school day.”

Heimis got community members on board and hope to implement the mentoring program soon.

“Once those students can establish their talent and understand what talents they have they can grow more as an adult.”

The next step is to get their application approved and get the chapter officially started. Heimis says they hope to kickoff in January or February and bring in Demoine Adams to possibly speak with the kids,
