Two arrested after family returns on Easter to find flood-damaged home looted

Members of a Hamburg, Iowa, family returned to their flood-damaged home on Easter morning to discover that it had been looted.

After almost two weeks of investigating, police have arrested two suspects from Omaha.

A joint investigation by the Omaha Police Department and the Fremont (Iowa) County Sheriff’s Office led to a man and woman in Omaha.

The pair were arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree theft and second-degree criminal mischief.

When the family returned to the home to gather belongings on April 21, they discovered that it had been forcibly entered and that thousands of dollars’ worth of property was missing, police said. The driveway and yard were also damaged.

Both suspects were arrested in Omaha and are being held at the Douglas County Jail.
