COLUMBUS – The Columbus Community Hospital presented the 8th annual We Can Run, Walk, & Roll event on Saturday morning.
The event took place at Memorial Stadium at Pawnee Park, and featured both a 5K (3.1mile) race and a one mile race. Community members of all ages and skill levels participated in the event, with competitive runners, joggers, walkers, and individuals using wheelchairs invited to compete.
The goal of the event is to eliminated barriers of physical disabilities, and allow competitors of all levels and abilities to race together, while also changing the common perception of disability in the minds of all participants.
All proceeds from the event go towards the purchase of AmTrykes for the hospital, which are customized tricycles for differently-abled individuals, allowing them to participate in activities with friends and family. The hospital says that since the first event in 2011, almost 30 AmTrykes have been given to individuals and families.
Following the races, various giveaways were awarded to participants, provided by the many sponsors of the event. The top finishers in several different categories for both the 5K and one mile races were awarded with medals as well.
