WEB Donates $1,300 For Playground Equipment, Fun Run Numbers Announced

WAYNE –  Thursday late afternoon, the entire group of elementary students, staff and teachers gathered for a school assembly from the Wayne Elementary School gymnasium.

Elementary Principal, Russ Plager began the assembly celebrating birthdays with a birthday song followed by announcements from Sandy Brown with Wayne Elementary Boosters.

A cart was rolled out and elementary students celebrated the new recess equipment thanks to a $1,300 donation from WEB which featured over 40 footballs/volleyballs/four square balls/soccer balls and more according to Brown.

“Over 30 jump ropes, 24 hula hoops, catch-a-cups, cones,” said Brown. “You name it, it’s practically here and one of the great things is we got a really incredible storage cart.”

Brown added more about the storage cart that all the items could be held together and stored.

“That was part of the problem after we did some research and looked around, talked to teachers and students of their existing recess equipment and how it was stored and how all the jump ropes were just knotted together like a pit of snakes.”

The Fourth annual WEB Fun Run took place from Kern Track last Friday, September 22. $5,700 was raised from the 164 students who turned in pledges, just over 140 hit the $25 mark.

1st place winner ($228): 2nd grader Brooklyn Jones (Family membership to the CAC)

2nd place winner ($190): 4th grader Josie Ley (Wayne sports family activity pass)

3rd place winner ($155): Liam Rockhill (registration to WSC basketball/indoor track and field meet camps)

$25 drawing winner: Evan Bose (family swimming pool pass for next Summer)

Upcoming events include the WEB Runza Night on Tuesday, October 10 from 5-8 p.m. as well as Dean Jacobs will be presenting to elementary students on Thursday, October 12.

“He’ll do a morning presentation at 8:10 a.m. for the older grades and then he’ll do one right after that at 9:10 a.m. for the younger grades,” Brown mentioned. “It’s all about the amazon this time, so we’re very excited to have him back.”
