BEATRICE – An 18-year-old driver escaped injury when the pickup he was driving rolled onto its top along Nebraska Highway 41, Tuesday morning.
Gage County Sheriff’s officers say Eastin Henkel of rural Clatonia was driving to school at around 7:20 a.m., when his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado hit a patch of ice on the highway.
The truck crossed the center line, went into the south ditch and struck a field drive and culvert. The pickup went airborne and rolled at least once, before coming to rest on its top.
Clatonia Rescue personnel responded to the scene on the highway, about a quarter-mile east of Southwest 72nd Road. The driver told authorities he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The accident happened about two miles east of Clatonia.
