#4 Humphrey St. Francis Survives Overtime Thriller

HUMPHREY – For the 6th time since 2014, the #8 Wynot Blue Devils and #4 Humphrey St. Francis Flyers faced off and this time, they needed overtime to decide the winner.

Both teams struggled to get things going offensively, but it was Wynot who strikes first on 10-yard touchdown pass from Landon Wieseler to Lucas Thingstad to give the Blue Devils a 6-0 lead heading to the second quarter.

The Flyers had a couple opportunities to add some points on the scoreboard themselves but penalties stalled their drives and they would trail for the first time all season heading into halftime.

Humphrey St. Francis would finally find the end zone after sophomore quarterback Trevor Pfeifer found Nolan Kosch for a 24-yard touchdown to tie the game at 6-6.

With 11:07 left in the game, Pfeifer connects with Pierce Eisenmenger on a 28-yard touchdown pass to give the Flyers their first lead of the game.

Both defense’s continued to play tough, until Wynot was able to crack the Flyers defense as Lucas Thingstad punched it in from 1-yard out and after the 2-point conversion  the Blue Devils tied the game at 14-14 with 2:50 left in regulation and that score would stand heading into overtime.

The Flyers would start with the ball to begin the extra quarter and on 4th down and 1, Trevor Pfeifer did it on the ground this time to give his team a 22-14 lead after the 2-point conversion.

Three plays later, it was Lucas Thingstad rushing for his second touchdown on the night to pull within two. Thingstad would have the ball in his hands on the last play of the game as he rolled out of the pocket to throw to his intended target but Jarrett Weidner of Humphrey St. Francis batted the ball down and the Flyers hang on to win 22-20 in overtime.
