Battle Creek Holds Off GACC in Epic Five-Set Match

WEST POINT – It took longer than they may have expected, but Battle Creek held off a scrappy Guardian Angels Central Catholic squad to pick up the five-set win on the road Tuesday.

The Class C2 #8 Bravettes won the first set with little trouble, topping the Blue Jays 25-16. They followed that with a 25-19 win in set two.

But Guardian Angels – who was 0-6 against teams with winning records entering Tuesday – fought back with a vengeance, beating Battle Creek 25-21 in the 3rd set and outlasting the Bravettes 27-25 in a see-saw fourth set.

It looked like the Blue Jays had the upset sown up when they opened the fifth set up 7-1, but Battle Creek miraculously came back to take the decisive set 19-7.

The win improves Battle Creek to 16-6, while Guardian Angels CC falls to 7-8.
