NORFOLK – All six Mid State Conference cross country schools were represented Thursday after many of the softball districts were postponed a day due to weather.
From Skyview Lake in Norfolk, the Wayne High girls cross country team took third place overall (45) while the boys finished sixth as a team (96).
Individually for the Blue Devil Girls, Andrea Torres was the top runner with a fourth-place finish in a time of 21:09. Other Wayne High girls results were Gabi Meyer (eighth – 22:14), Emily Chamberlain (11th – 22:25), Molly Hoskins (23rd – 24:03) and Sarah Greenwald (29th – 25:03).
Boone Central/Neman Grove was crowned conference champions on the girls side with 29 points, followed by Norfolk Catholic in second with 37 points and Wayne High again took third (45). O’Neill (fourth – 53), Crofton (fifth – 67) and Battle Creek (sixth – 99).
Crofton’s Haley Arens crossed the finish line first in a time of 19:49.
Brandon Wacker was the top male runner for the Blue Devil boys taking 17th place in a time of 19:31. Other Blue Devil boys times came from Christopher Woerdemann (18th – 19:36), Treyton Blecke (31st – 21:29), Liam Spieker (35th – 21:45), Cole Hobza (45th – 22:31), Lance Muhs (50th – 23:15) and Stuart Hasemann (56th – 25:10).
Norfolk Catholic was crowned champions of the boys race with 31 points, just edging Pierce who took second with 34 points and Crofton rounded out the top three teams with 36 points. Boone Central/Newman Grove (fourth – 56), O’Neill (fifth – 70) and Wayne High (sixth – 96).
Jonny Lindgren (17:35.62) of BC/NG edged Pierce’s Mason Sindelar (17:36.17) by just a second.
Wayne High will next compete in the Class C District 2 Meet on Thursday, October 12 from the O’Neill Golf Course.
