WAYNE – Not even a week into the season, junior pitcher Tori Kniesche has four wins under her belt and now a Player of the Week honor.
Monday afternoon, the MaxPreps/National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) High School Player of the Week was awarded to Tori Kniesche after her performance between August 13 – 19.
The Wayne High softball athlete recently racked up 36 strikeouts over 15 innings, gave up no hits, walking two batters and hitting one.
Wayne improved to 4-0 after winning their home tournament on Saturday with wins over Ponca (12-0) and a pair of 3-0 wins over Twin River and Arlington.
On the season for Tori Kniesche she has worked 22 innings, allowing just one hit in the 2-0 win over Blair, is a perfect 4-0 on the season and has struck out 51 batters.
Up next for the top team in Class C will be a scheduled home game with O’Neill on Tuesday, August 21 at 6:30 p.m. The Eagles went 0-3 to start their season in the York Quadrangular this past weekend falling to Fairbury (19-1), York (7-1) and Grand Island Central Catholic (11-0).
The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Player of the Week honor is announced every Monday during the fall season with one representative chosen from the participating regions.
Tori Kniesche is the second Player of the Week honoree after a sophomore from Claremore, Oklahoma earned the award last Monday.
