ALBION – As Wayne High competes with Classes B and C softball teams on the road, the wins continue to add up.
The Blue Devil softball team was in Albion Tuesday evening for third their road triangular of the season. WHS took on the host, Boone Central/Newman Grove and won 17-0 in four innings while handing Pierce a 14-0 defeat. WHS has now won 11 straight games, 10 on the road to improve to 18-2.
In the win over BC/NG, Wayne scored two runs in the first inning and added another run in the second. WHS tabbed an eight-run third and scored six more runs in the fourth and final inning.
It was a homerun kind of game, as five different Blue Devils accounted for six long balls. Kennedy Maly had herself a game with two of those homeruns, a single and five RBI. Jenna Trenhaile homered, added a single and drove in three runs. Tori Kniesche homered and drove in three runs, Abby Ankeny homered, doubled and drove in a run while Jamie Gamble tacked on a homerun with two RBI.
Tori Kniesche picked up the complete game, shutout win in four innings allowing one hit while striking out eight batters and walking one.

During the win over Pierce, WHS tallied 13 runs in the first innings while adding one run in the second.
Kennedy Maly paced the Blue Devils at the plate with two doubles and three RBI as Ankeny added two doubles and a RBI. Sidney Biggerstaff homered during one of her two hits and drove in two runs while Tori Kniesche homered for the second time while driving in a pair of runs. Annie Kniesche doubled and drove in two runs while Trenhaile tacked on a double.
Tori Kniesche picked up the win in two innings striking out six batters and walking two. Kayla Fleming worked an inning striking out one batter.

Tori Kniesche was also named the MaxPreps/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Week for five games played September 4-10. Kniesche went 5-0 last week, recording five shutouts in five starts while adding two no-hitters. She struck out 69 batters in 30 innings of work.
To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete’s game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week’s award.
The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the fall season with one representative chosen from the participating regions. During the spring campaign, a player from each of five separate high school regions is selected.
Next up for the Wayne High softball team will be Class A (9-15) Columbus High scheduled for Thursday, September 14. Game time is set for 6 p.m. from the Summer Sports Complex in Wayne.
