Tycen Marten scores on a 53-yard run late in the game to give Broken Bow a 27-7 lead.

GRAND ISLAND – Broken Bow had been in close games all season, but on Friday night the Indians came out on the winning side.

Broken Bow traveled to Grand Island and defeated GICC 27-7 thanks to a tough running game and stingy defense.

Cole Ulmer put the Indians on the board with a 1-yard score early in the second quarter, and Broken Bow would take a 13-0 lead into halftime after a 14-yard touchdown strike from Grayson Garey to Kevin Linn.

GICC would cut the lead to six after a 4-yard TD run by Luke Wemhoff with 10:57 left in the game, but following a GICC fumble Garey hit Linn from 5 yards out to give the Indians a 20-7 lead with 2:20 to go. Tycen Marten closed the game for good with a 53-yard scamper with less than a minute to play to make it 27-7.

Marten led the Indians with 152 yards rushing, while Linn, in addition to his two TD catches, recovered two fumbles in the victory.

Jacob Herbek led GICC with 8 receptions for 91 yards.

GICC travels to Columbus Scotus on Thursday while Broken Bow heads to Minden on Friday.
