NEBRASKA CITY – A car accident and a baseball to the eye hasn’t kept Tyler Levy out of the Nebraska City Legion Baseball lineup very long this season.
The Nebraska City High School senior to-be was involved in a car accident in early June, but only missed a week with sore shoulders. He took a baseball to the eye when he returned to the lineup the next week. That injury held him out another week.
Despite the two setbacks, Levy is hitting .316 with 15 runs scored, nine RBI’s, 10 stolen bases and two doubles this summer. He has also thrown 4.2 innings, striking out seven.
Post 8 Head Coach James Widoe says when Levy is playing well he is an instant spark plug and a big difference maker, no matter what his role is.
“He plays the game really hard. Does everything pretty well. He’s not an easy out anytime just because of his speed. Even if he hits a little dribbler or little blooper, he can turn those things into something pretty powerful. He’s definitely one of the straws that stirs the drink for us.”
Nebraska City (13-10) will host Class A Norfolk (9-15) in a doubleheader on Thursday at Clemmy Holmes Field. Game times are set for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Both games will air live on KNCY 1600 AM, 105.5 FM and online ncn21.com.
Levy will play wide receiver for the Pioneer football team this fall. He set the school record with 46 receptions during his junior year. His cousin, Bryce, is expected to be the starting quarterback again this season.
