Crete Uses Six-Run Inning To Pull Away From Wayne-Wakefield

CRETE – Following a week off from competition, the Wayne-Wakefield baseball team took part in a road contest at Crete.

On Tuesday from Tuxedo Park in Crete, the Blue Devils jumped out with an early lead after scoring a run in the top of the second inning. Crete followed with a six-run third, three more in the fifth and two in the sixth to win 11-1. Crete has now won three consecutive games to sit 6-7 overall while Wayne-Wakefield is now 5-8.

Seniors Tyler Lutt and Tucker Nichols recorded the only hits for Wayne-Wakefield, each singling. Freshman Hagan Miller accounted for the lone RBI scoring senior Caden Korth.

Senior Adam Bentjen suffered the loss in four innings allowing six runs off of seven hits while walking and striking out three batters. Senior Mikey Reyes worked an inning allowing three earned runs off of two hits while walking a batter as Korth pitched a third of an inning allowing two earned runs off of one hit and walked three batters.

Wayne-Wakefield is scheduled to visit Norfolk High Thursday, April 20 from Veterans Park/Memorial Field at 5 p.m. for JV followed by a 7 p.m. first Varsity pitch. The Blue Devils defeated the Panthers on April 7, 6-3, in Wayne.
