ALBION – Cedar Catholic passed a pretty tough early season test on Friday.
The Trojan girls withstood a relentless Boone Central/Newman attack, both on offense and on defense, beating the Cardinals 62-53.
It was a back-and-forth game, until the third quarter, when senior Anna Reifenrath took over, scoring 14 points in the third alone, and keying the Trojans to a run that increased their lead to 40-29. From that point HCC never trailed again. Reifenrath finished with 26 points and nine rebounds.
The Cardinals weren’t without their own play-makers. Sophomore Jenna Hedlund led all scorers with 28 points and helped key BC/NG’s up-tempo attack. She also finished with nine rebounds.
The Trojans improve to 1-1 on the year, while Boone Central/Newman Grove begins the year 0-1.
