PIERCE – In what could be the first of three possible meetings, saw the Wayne High girls visit Pierce Friday evening.
Both teams compete in the Mid State Conference and both are in the C1-5 Subdistrict Tournament.
In the opening quarter, Pierce jumped out front 17-12 while adding a 7-4 second quarter. Entering the locker room, the Lady Bluejays held a 24-16 first half lead. Wayne kept close with Pierce in the third quarter, only being outscored 12-11 while winning the fourth, 7-5. But, Pierce held on for the 41-34 victory to improve to 6-6 on the season as Wayne High fell to 9-4.
Wayne High was led in scoring by Ashton Boyer off the bench with 13 points as Kylie Hammer was able to manage 12 points while grabbing four rebounds.
Maggie Brahmer paced Pierce in the scoring column with 16 points.
Wayne High will join their boys team for a road game in Newman against Boone Central/Newman Grove on Saturday, January 6. Pierce will be off until they travel to Columbus Lakeview on Tuesday, January 9.
