Knights Come Up Short at Bishop Neumann
The Norfolk Catholic boys and girls basketball teams both fell on the road at Bishop Neumann in Wahoo on Thursday night

WAHOO – A turnover prone evening greeted both the Norfolk Catholic boys and girls basketball teams in Wahoo on Thursday night as Bishop Neumann gained a sweep over the Knights.

In the girls’ game, the Cavaliers jumped to a double-digit lead early and never let up on the Knights, cruising to a 70-33 win. Norfolk Catholic (1-3) couldn’t get on track offensively, committing 26 turnovers in the game and shooting just 26.8 percent from the floor. The Knights were led by nine points and five rebounds from Jordan Peitz while Drue Pieper added six points in the loss.

Bishop Neumann ran out to a 39-15 lead at halftime as their offense turned Norfolk Catholic turnovers into points. Lindsay Thiele paced the Cavaliers with 17 points while Aspen Jansa added 15 to help Bishop Neumann even their record at 2-2 on the season. An 11-0 run ending the second quarter put the game out of reach for good heading into the break.

The boys’ game didn’t go much better for Norfolk Catholic as the Knights committed 21 turnovers and failed to gain their first win of the season in a 63-38 loss to Bishop Neumann despite a monster night from Ethan Pieper.

The 6’4″ junior finished with a team-high 12 points and 15 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Cavaliers got their first win of the season behind 21 points from Kobey Simons. The junior guard hit six three-pointers on the night to pace Bishop Neumann, while Zach Meduna added 11 as the Cavaliers held a commanding 35-15 lead at halftime.

Norfolk Catholic would trim the deficit to 41-28 late in the third quarter, but Bishop Neumann closed the period on a 7-3 run to put the game out of reach. Carson Dominisse added six points off the bench for the Knights in the losing effort.

The Norfolk Catholic girls are next in action on Monday at home against Hartington Cedar Catholic while the boys are at Battle Creek on Saturday.
