COLUMBUS – It took some time to get going, but the Millard West offense exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning to defeat Columbus 10-0.
The Wildcats lead 3-0 heading into their big inning after Ava Rongisch, Delaney Richardson, and Reese Peterson drove in runs in the second and third innings. Millard West scored its seven runs on two bases loaded hit batters, a bases loaded walk, and a trio of singles from Peterson, Emma Decker, and Catie Decker.
Columbus was able to put runners on base for the first three innings, but were not able to capitalize after getting runners in scoring position. Starting pitcher Larisa Rother was pitching well early on, but was not able to hold back the Wildcat offense in the fifth inning.
Millard West starting pitcher Hanna Cress pitched a very clean game, recording seven strikeouts, and only giving up two hits to the Discoverer offense.
Millard West improved to 4-2 with the victory, and Columbus fell to 4-5. These two teams will meet again this weekend at the Norfolk Invitational.
