NORFOLK – It was a northeast Nebraska showdown during the first of two meetings in Senior American Legion baseball action Tuesday evening.
From Veterans Memorial Field, Norfolk entertained Wayne as the two teams will meet again in Wayne on Tuesday, July 17 at 7 p.m.
Just like in the Juniors game, Wayne took a 2-0 lead after the top half of the first inning. But, Norfolk answered back and wouldn’t go away with a four-run first, two runs in the third and another seven in the fourth to win by run-rule, 13-2. Norfolk Post 16 improved to 9-15 while Wayne fell to 12-5.

Justin Dean singled and drove in a run as Payten Gamble doubled for Wayne. Zane Jackson and Tucker Nichols also singled.
Tyler Lutt suffered the loss in two and a third innings allowing six runs off of seven hits while striking out two batters. Adam Bentjen worked an inning allowing six runs off of two hits while walking two batters and hitting three as Nichols pitched an inning allowing one run while walking three batters.
Carter Faltys recorded a pair of singles and two RBI as Nolan Strand recorded a two-run homer and a single for Norfolk. T.J. Price also added a triple, single and drove in a run.
Dylan Rodgers picked up the win in three innings allowing two runs off of two hits while striking out nine batters and walking two. Faltys worked an inning allowing two hits while striking out four batters.
The Wayne Post 43 Seniors are off until next Wednesday, July 11 at Waterloo-Valley in Valley for a double header at 5:45/8 p.m.
A northeast Nebraska Senior American Legion baseball team is set to be in action on Wednesday, July 4. Wakefield Post 81 will host the Omaha Aces for one, nine-inning game at 7 p.m. from Eaton Field in Wayne.
