St. Cecilia Girls Top Crofton for C-2 Championship

LINCOLN, NE — The Hastings St. Cecilia Hawkettes made nine three-pointers and vanquished the Crofton Warriors 63-45 to win the Class C-2 State Championship.

The win gives the St. Cecilia (26-1) program redemption after losing to Crofton (23-4) in the state tournament four straight years.  The championship is fifth for Hastings St. Cecilia.

The Hawkettes came out hitting from three.  They drilled three triples in the first quarter to take an 18-14 advantage.  The team buckled down defensively in the second quarter to grow its lead to 14 at halftime.

Crofton took control in the third quarter.  They outscored the Hawkettes 16-9 behind the scoring of star sophomore Lacey Sprakel.  The Warriors cut the deficit to four points early in the fourth quarter but Makenna Asher banked in a three-pointer to ignite the final run to the championship by St. Cecilia.
