St. Cecilia Holds Off Feisty Cedar Catholic in C2 Round One

LINCOLN – Hastings St. Cecilia didn’t want a repeat of last year, when they lost a heartbreaker to a northeast Nebraska team in the first round of the Class C2 girls state basketball tournament.

After a Hartington Cedar Catholic steal and lay-in gave the Trojans a 28-26 lead in the third quarter, the Hawkettes roared back with nine straight, never looking back in a 49-41 win.

It was a far cry from their 45-43 loss to Ponca in the 2017 tournament.

The Hawkettes ended Cedar Catholic’s Cinderella story, after the Trojans qualified for state after grabbing the three-seed in their sub-district.
